10 Jean-Luc Picard Quotes Every Starfleet Officer Should Know

To boldly go where no one has gone before requires courage, but also a fair share of wisdom — and no captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise had as much wisdom to offer as Jean-Luc Picard, who occupied the captain’s chair on Star Trek: The Next Generation for 178 episodes (and four movies) between 1988 and 1995.

Unlike the action-oriented vivaciousness of Captain James T. Kirk on the original Star Trek (1966-1969), Picard was a philosopher who chewed on the moral complexities of life, duty, and the many unknowns of the universe that confronted his crew week after week. Picard’s thoughtful aura was helped along by actor Patrick Stewart, who spent most of his career walking in the shoes of some of William Shakespeare’s most complex characters. “I used to get asked, ‘In a fight between Kirk and Picard, who would win?’” Stewart told Smithsonian Magazine in 2014. “And my answer always was there wouldn’t be a fight because Picard would negotiate his way around it.”

These 10 quotes represent moments of Picard’s brilliance throughout the show’s seven seasons. While many of the Starfleet captain’s problems are firmly embedded in the 24th century — the personhood of super-advanced AI, the moral failings of a galaxy-wide government, and so very many time anomalies — his words speak to timeless truths about what it means to be human.

There can be no justice, so long as laws are absolute. Life itself is an exercise in exceptions.

You have to measure your successes and your failures within. Not by anything that I or anyone else might think.

Seize the time... Live now! Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.

It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.

The only person you’re truly competing against is yourself.

Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey, and reminds us to cherish every moment because they'll never come again.

You cannot explain away a wantonly immoral act because you think that it is connected to some higher purpose.

Open your mind to the past: to history, art, philosophy. And then [looks at the stars] this will mean something.

There are times, sir, when men of good conscience cannot blindly follow orders.
What we leave behind is not as important as how we lived. After all, number one, we're only mortal.

Horror Movies.
The monsters are not the issue.

People are.
I'm watching/not watching "The Mist."
Mrs. Carmody does more damage than the creatures.

And I gave up on "The Walking Dead" after
Season 4.
It's the same old tired story: The survivors are
more dangerous than the Zeds.

Next time you go out, pay attention.

So yeah.

I was asked by a Gov. agency to provide certain info.
I lost the original data about it.
I called the phone numbers to account for my blunder.
Talk about it, get it squared away and all, ya know?

Total automated clap trap. You been there.
And if not, why not?

I punched ZERO, not on the menu. The CS line.
I got there.
It said they maxed out on calls for the day. Call again.

If I fail to get this on, and get pinched for failure to comply,
I will say "Pull my LUDS".

That's phone records.
It will indicate I called.
Show of good faith. Intent.

Watch: I'm potentially gonna get pinched for fail to prove
due to SYSTEM FAIL.

Guerrilla: The Taking of Patty Hearst

February 4, 1974, Patty Hearst, granddaughter of William Randolph Heart, was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA), who first demanded a prisoner swap for Hearst, then, as it failed, demanded $6 million worth of food for the poor of the Bay Area.

"Death to the Fascist Insect that Preys upon the Life of the People!"
I enjoyed watching this documentary, which brought back poignant memories. "Death to the fascist Insect that Preys upon the Life of the People!" I love it. One may disagree with the ideas, methods, and actions of the Symbionese Liberation Army, but some of the things the ragtag group had to say were undeniably true. Most educated young people then were well aware of the fact that this country was indeed a racist, fascist police state, but little did we know just how much worse it could get, and ultimately, without so much as a collective whimper of protest. Today, as materialistic Generation X enthusiastically supports each new erosion of our remaining freedoms, the counterculture's loftiest ideals long ago contemptuously discarded or replaced with politically correct hypocrisy of the worst sort, it is clear just what we were fighting against, although most of us sold out as soon as our first child was born. Even the totally corrupt WWII generation looked "great" in comparison, halting the murderous advance of the Axis powers, developing nuclear weapons, rockets, and jet aircraft, and following it up by sending us to the Moon. A very tough act to follow, nonetheless, the Baby Boom generation entered adulthood with a great education and lots of energy and promise but were simply unable to deliver the goods. Put in simple terms, you either sold out and became a working cog or your friends and neighbors ultimately betrayed you, with the cops waiting to persecute and harass you and beat your brains in the moment you stepped too far out of line. Nobody but the most naive persons really believed that the conventional life was born of personal choice, and only the most independent, tough, and resourceful individuals were able to buck the unrelenting pressure to conform to bourgeois values and retain a modicum of their past ideals. In contrast, the false sense of status quo certainty so pervasive today has yet to be seriously challenged. Pampered and relatively ignorant Generation X has no idea what it means to be forcibly kept down and the torch passed to your little brothers and sisters, instead.

All that aside, this documentary is a very good effort. The scenes from yesteryear remind us of both the philosophical ambiguities and the stark realities of that time. The memories of two surviving members of the SLA and a thoughtful past editor at the San Francisco Chronicle form the backbone of the film's narrative. This, the archival footage, and a set of no-nonsense audio tapes are its primary strengths as documentary. The communiques from Donald DeFreeze, or "Cinque", self-appointed General Field Marshall of the United Federated Forces of the Symbionese Liberation Army, are particularly eloquent and biting. His characterizations of the Hearst media empire as one of the largest propaganda institutions of the "fascist militarist corporate dictatorship under which we live" hit home effectively. One drawback, however, is that the surviving SLA members interviewed for the film try to distance themselves from the violent actions of the group and it comes off as self-serving and insincere.

My primary criticism, however, is that Patty Hearst is almost given a pass in that the director did not thoroughly explore her strange transformation from sheltered heiress to committed revolutionary and back again to sheltered heiress and slick little phony. After her apprehension, upon the advice of her lawyers and under the renewed influence of her family, she began to claim that she'd never committed any antisocial acts as "Tania" that weren't forced upon her by her comrades in the SLA, although clearly, this position was at odds with the record. The filmmaker more or less allowed the viewer to form their own conclusions, which may account for some of the downright silly reactions heard by some of the documentary's younger viewers who see Patty as a heroine rather than a chameleon changing perspectives and personalities as easily as donning a new set of clothes. She not only renounced and insulted her parents and her upbringing, but ultimately regarded in similar fashion the memories of her brutally slain comrades in arms. Obviously, the jury didn't buy it and she was sentenced to seven years in prison for voluntary participation in the Hibernia Bank robbery. That she was given clemency by President Carter after serving less than two years of her sentence, allowed to publish a book and profit from it handsomely, and later given a pardon by President Clinton, merely underscores the fact that here we have a very privileged person, indeed. The most ironic thing is that her parents are now both deceased, and presumably, she and her sisters more or less control the media empire built up by her grandfather and handed down to them by her dad. In effect, therefore, she has become part and parcel of "the fascist insect that preys upon the life of the people.

What has happened to Patty Hearst?

Despite the claims of brainwashing, the jury found her to be guilty. She was sentenced to seven years in prison for her crimes. Patty Hearst served two years in prison before 39th US president Jimmy Carter commuted her sentence. She was later pardoned off her sentence.May 25, 2021

Where is Patty Hearst now 2021?

Now, Mrs. Hearst-Shaw lives in New York and Connecticut with her former bodyguard husband, Bernard Shaw and their two daughters. Bernard Shaw is now the head of security for the Hearst Corporation.

Letter: To those advocating governmental mandates

Elko Daily Free Press
April 15, 2022
Editor:

We’ve met, but you may not recognize me. You may have referred to me as a “conspiracy theorist”, “racist”, “sexist”, “bigot”, “anti-masker” or “anti-vaxxer” over the years, but in fact I am none of the above. I may be your friend, family member, colleague, partner and neighbor.

You’re wearing a mask so I can’t see the scorn set on your lips, or even your smile. Your eyes are visible, but in them I see only compliance, judgment, fear, shame and perhaps defeat. I don’t judge you, as I know you are a victim. You have been efficiently conditioned, the result of which has left you stripped bare of self-confidence, dignity, power and compassion.

Your only strength is to attack those unwilling to join you in obedience. It’s okay -- I don’t feel mad -- I understand the attacks are misguided so I will gladly continue to be the target. I will allow you to direct your fear and anger at me and I will accept it, because the battle I am fighting is for you as well as me. It’s for your children and grandchildren, as well as mine.

You and I both had a choice to make, and I decided to fight for freedom. You submitted and some even attempted to shame, intimidate and coerce me into the same, becoming outraged at my independence and my belief in “my body, my choice”. You disagreed with my striving for a fair and just society, free from fraud and deception. You accused me of harming others and called me dangerous or a part of a mob. You call me a “fascist” for arguing against government overreach. Do you see the irony in this?

While you continue to angrily comply, I will continue to push back. I will continue to value my sovereignty and autonomy and I will use my internal strength and fortitude until you can more clearly see that the fight is not between you and me. When they can no longer divide us, love, truth, unity and justice will win.

Anyway, I got wood screws and sandpaper for shelf.
I'm beat. Lucky to be walking but it hurts.
Will rest up for tomorrow's activity: build shelf.

Putin said that "The West knows it cannot win such a war" with Russia. Is this true?

Yes, it’s true. There can be no winners in nuclear war between Russia and the West.

Modern nuclear missiles are hundreds times more powerful. We don’t need to go that way.

Black Sabbath ~ War Pigs

I think... it is an appropriate time to listen to this song.

This song has never been more relevant before like it's today. And it's 52 years old.

I say: Rock and Roll didn't so much "change the world" as it does WARNING US OF THE WORLD.

Astronomers get a deep peek at a black hole using a new technique

Astronomers just got a deep peek at a black hole.

Using a technique akin to echolocation, scientists were able to map the region around a distant black hole’s event horizon in unprecedented detail.

BYNADIA DRAKE
PUBLISHED JANUARY 20, 2020

In an enormous effort that stunned the world, scientists last year unveiled the first direct picture of a black hole, allowing humans to see what exists at the cusp of the monster’s maw. Now, astronomers have used a different technique involving x-ray “echoes” to peer even closer at one of these gravitational behemoths.

The black hole coming into focus is parked in the middle of a galaxy called IRAS 13224-3809, which sits about a billion light-years away. The supermassive object is surrounded by a swirling disk of million-degree matter and is sheathed by an x-ray corona with a temperature exceeding a billion degrees. By charting how those x-rays behave, scientists created an extremely detailed map of the region around the black hole’s event horizon, the zone beyond which not even light can escape.

BLACK HOLES 101
At the center of our galaxy, a supermassive black hole churns. Learn about the types of black holes, how they form, and how scientists discovered these invisible, yet extraordinary objects in our universe.
“Black holes don’t give off any light themselves, so the only way we can study this is by watching what matter does as it falls onto it,” says the University of Cambridge’s William Alston, whose team reports the observations today in the journal Nature Astronomy.

It’s a much more precise measurement than even the Event Horizon Telescope, which produced last year’s black hole picture, could make for an object so far away. The new measurements of IRAS 13224-3809’s black hole helped scientists pin down its mass and spin, properties that can reveal vital clues about the black hole’s evolution. If similar measurements can be made for a larger population of nearby supermassive black holes, they could help scientists learn more about how galaxies grow.

“Understanding the spin distribution of black holes in many galaxies tells us about how we go from the early universe to the population we see today,” Alston says.

Echo mapping
Despite the innocuous name, IRAS 13224-3809 is one of the most exciting galaxies in the x-ray sky: It is an active galaxy, meaning that its innermost region shines more brightly than can be explained by stars alone, and its x-ray brightness fluctuates by a factor of 50, sometimes over just a few hours. Alston and his colleagues chose to study this particular galaxy because they wanted a dynamic, fluctuating source that could help them nail down specific properties of the central supermassive black hole.

To do that, Alston and his colleagues studied IRAS 13224-3809 using the European Space Agency’s XMM-Newton spacecraft. An Earth-orbiting telescope that studies the cosmos in x-rays, XMM-Newton stared at the distant galaxy over the course of 16 orbits—totaling more than 550 hours—between 2011 and 2016.

From those many hours’ worth of data, Alston and his colleagues assembled a map of the supermassive black hole’s x-ray corona and its accretion disk, a ring of swirling matter that’s just outside the event horizon. Some of the emitted x-rays head directly into the cosmos, but others slam into the accretion disk and take a little longer to exit the bruiser’s immediate environment.

“This extra path length causes a time delay between the x-rays that were produced originally in the corona,” Alston explains. “We can measure the echo—this time delay—which we call a reverberation.”

This technique, called reverberation mapping, helped the scientists probe the gassy material around the black hole. Alston compares the process to echolocation, in which animals such as bats bounce sound off objects to help them navigate in flight. And, unlike the process used by the Event Horizon Telescope to assemble an image of a nearby black hole, reverberation mapping can be used to study objects that are far, far away and probe regions even closer to the event horizon.

“Reverberation mapping doesn't rely on spatial resolution at all,” says Georgia State University’s Misty Bentz, who uses the same technique to study distant black holes. “Instead, it uses light echoes within the object to tell us about structures, even very small and very far away ones.”

Staggering spin
The light echoes captured from IRAS 13224-3809 allowed Alston and his team to determine the precise geometry of the material surrounding the black hole, including the dimensions of its dynamic x-ray corona, which powers those echoes. The team could then use that information to calculate the black hole’s mass and spin, two properties that do not fluctuate on human timescales.

“To measure the mass and spin of the black hole, we need to know exactly where this gas is before it falls into the black hole,” Alston says. Scientists have used this technique to study supermassive black holes before, but those observations were neither as lengthy, nor the source as variable, as they are for IRAS 13224-3809.

Based on the new mapping, the team concluded that this supermassive black hole contains as much mass as two million suns, and that it is spinning nearly as fast as it possibly can without breaking the laws of physics. Bentz, who was not involved in the work, says the authors’ extensive observations make the results extremely convincing.

“The authors carried out the same experiment 16 times, which is significantly more than any previous studies,” Bentz says. “That really helped them to pin down the pieces that were not changing.”

Alston and his team also assembled a dynamic image of how the x-ray corona swaddling the black hole changes over time, with its size varying somewhat dramatically over a day.

Galactic seeds
Every large galaxy in the universe is likely anchored to a central supermassive black hole. Deciphering the ways in which those anchors pirouette could offer clues to how they, and their host galaxies, formed and evolved over the age of the universe.

“One of the things we don’t know is how supermassive black holes form,” Alston says. “What are the seeds of these in the early universe? Most of our models currently predict seeds that are too small, and they can’t actually grow quick enough.”

One way in which galaxies could form involves multiple small galaxies colliding and merging. As these galaxies merge, so do their central black holes. If those collisions are chaotic, they could not only contribute to the resulting bigger black hole’s mass, but also to the way it spins, Alston says.

Another way in which black holes might bulk up is through a continual stream of inflowing gas. In that case, the resulting spin might be speedier, as IRAS 13224-3809’s spin appears to be, though Alston says it’s too soon to conclude that this particular galaxy accreted mass through this mechanism.

Eventually, he and his colleagues would like to use reverberation mapping to pin down the spins—and thus the formation histories—of hundreds of nearby supermassive black holes, in effect taking a census of these objects. Then, based on how far away those black holes are, scientists can look at how galaxies grew across the age of the universe.

RAT LUNCH

Woman found guilty of planting rat in meal at Wisconsin restaurant

Running a restaurant is hard enough without dealing with rats and wackos.

The Post-Crescent reports that a woman who attempted to extort money from an upscale restaurant by putting a rat in her lunch entered no-contest pleas Tuesday to two criminal charges.

Judge Dee Dyer found Debbie R. Miller, 43, guilty after she entered the no-contest pleas to a felony extortion charge and a misdemeanor for obstructing police. She will be sentenced March 8 in Outagamie County Court.

Miller planted a rat in her lunch at The Seasons on April 17, 2008, and then demanded $500,000 from the owners. She threatened to alert the media if the money wasn’t paid.

Bob Doller, who owns The Seasons in Grand Chute with his wife, Jessica, said,

“This has been a long, drawn out battle and it has affected my business. We would hope that if anyone had any doubts that it was a true claim, they would know now that it was extortion. In April, it will be two years since this happened. If you compare 2007 to 2008 (the year of the incident), the loss was tens of thousands of dollars.”

The Dollers kept the rat after the extortion attempt. Insurance investigators sent it for testing and determined that it not only wasn’t a wild rat, but rather a domestic, white rat that had been cooked in a microwave. The restaurant doesn’t use microwaves.

Farm Police are continuing the investigation, but no signs of foul play have been found in the chicken coop, officials said.

We put the fowl in foul play.

The Plan To Destroy America Was Built Around Electing a Brain-Dead Sock Puppet! And Now Everyone Knows It!

Wayne Allyn Root on Apr 17, 2022

I'm just back from Florida where I had the great honor of speaking at a "Club 45" event that had two speakers: myself and former President Donald J. Trump. Thousands of tickets sold out in 20 minutes. We had a wild, raucous, standing-room-only crowd inside the ballroom of the Palm Beach Airport Hilton.

The main themes of the back-to-back speeches of Trump and myself were A) the possibly rigged, stolen 2020 election and B) the purposeful destruction of America that is being carried out by Joe Biden, who I believe to be the illegitimate president of the United States, and his radical handlers.

I pulled no punches. I described Joe Biden as a "old, weak, feeble, brain-dead sock puppet with dementia, hiding in the basement with a mask and diapers." As a bonus, he's also the most corrupt politician in history, and owned lock, stock and barrel by China and the Chinese Communist Party.

I described the Democrat Party as, "A party of evil, radical, communist, fascist, racist, Godless, America-haters who can't figure out which bathroom to use... and who believe people are like frogs... and they can change their sex on an hourly basis."

I told the crowd, "We are in a war between good and evil. This is a battle of normal all-American patriots versus confused, bizarre, mentally ill weirdos who are drunk with power... and want to enslave us, ban us, censor us, brainwash us, ruin our careers and destroy our country.

I also identified who is really running the country: This is the third term of Barack Obama. Obama is the ventriloquist with his hand up puppet Biden's back, making Biden's mouth move. Obama is carrying out the plan to destroy America with record speed.

But Obama is just an order-taker. The order-givers are evil billionaire communists and globalists George Soros and Klaus Schwab, combined with the Chinese Communist Party. That's who really runs America at this moment. And every day, with every new action, they make our country weaker and China stronger.

I identified the actual plan they are carrying out to destroy America -- it's called "Cloward-Piven." I learned it as a student at Columbia University, Class of 1983. Cloward and Piven were a husband-wife professor team at Columbia.

My classmates back then all bragged about being Marxists, communists, socialists and globalists. They all had an intense hatred for America, American exceptionalism, capitalism, white people and most of all, conservatives.

They bragged about their goal to destroy America with Cloward-Piven, by overwhelming the system with welfare and debt, thereby causing a collapse of the U.S. economy.

My most prominent classmate back then was future President Barack Hussein Obama.

Cloward-Piven is the plan being carried out today. But to do it, these radical communist traitors needed to update the plan. They needed to...

No. 1: Have a front man who would not scare the American voting public: a friendly, smiling, old white man from the D.C. establishment.

No. 2: Even better if he were suffering from dementia, as they could then easily manipulate this pathetic old man into signing anything they put in front of him.

No. 3: Then they needed to open the borders like never before, encouraging millions of criminals and welfare addicts to illegally come across the border to overwhelm the system with crime, welfare, Mariachi Bands and debt.

No. 4: As a bonus they could count on all of these foreigners to overwhelm the voting system too, thereby outvoting American-born citizens.

No. 5: Throw in COVID-19 lockdowns, vaccine mandates, massive inflation and brainwashing of our young people. What a toxic mix.

It's all happening in America today under dementia sock puppet Biden. But today the plan has been re-branded as "The Great Reset."

Have you seen the latest video of Biden trying to shake hands with an invisible person that only he sees? And then turning and walking nowhere in particular, wandering and mumbling to himself, while shuffling like a 100-year-old who needs a nurse by his side.

Now everyone understands.

They used nonthreatening, white-haired Biden to convince naive, welfare-addicted, low-information voters to vote for a harmless grandfather without realizing they were really voting for the destruction of America and the end of capitalism.

Then to make sure they won, Democrats rigged the election in six key battleground states with fake mail-in ballots, together with no voter ID required and no signature match. They threw in fraudulent ballot harvesting; unguarded ballot "drop boxes;" and they made sure to remove Republican witnesses from ballot counting rooms.

The American people are waking up. Everyone sees Biden for the dementia puppet he is. Even CNN admitted this week that Biden's poll numbers are the lowest of any president in history.

Biden the puppet, propped up as the fraudulent front man, opened the door for the destruction of America.
